Furniture Design for the National Gallery, Singapore
Changing everything in the experience of the monuments, while changing very little in the monuments themselves.
Very few people will know which furniture is the original and which is the copy. The National Gallery cannot convey an ambiguous message about integrity and authenticity of these furniture and let people think it is alright to play lightly with the pieces of historical heritage. We should keep at all time very respectful of all these furniture as if they were original furniture.
So, we propose to change everything about the experience, the context of the historical furniture but the furniture itself will remained unchanged.
Therefore, the message people will take home will be: “There is no contradiction between artistic freedom of expression and respect paid to national history.”
