The prize was accepted on behalf of studioMilou by Nguyen Tung Lam, manager of StudioMilou Vietnam, and Mr Nguyen Van Tat, founder and Managing Director of TAD, during a ceremony in the Opera House of Hanoi.
A comment of the jury on the design:
“When talking about the architectural typology of the Convention Center at the province scale, no aesthetic or experience of similar projects we have had in Vietnan applied. Whatever the requirements of high standards, regulations or needs, this project has basically achieved them all.
At the same time, the design has an organic relationship with its surrounding context, and an irresistible attraction, in an unconventional way. There is a special aspect to the success of this project; while a monumental building, it consists of a simple and elegant form. It is classical in its structures, but at the same time, inviting. Indeed, the project brings us a great sense of surprise. The building is designed with simplicity in its layout, organized within the basic rectangular geometry to the simple building structure. While there’s almost no complex architectural details, and local materials are used, the general spaces are vivid and surprisingly impressive. Moreover, to our surprise the project budget is very low. This is something others similar projects have never been accomplished.”
